In this article, we explore murals for children, starting with a nursery murals for a newborn and progressing to a playroom murals, and finally a bedroom and study space murals for teenagers. I have decided to create a new series of Blog articles called “Mural Focus”, which takes a close look at a specific type of mural, giving guidance and showing examples of my work.
In the 20+ years I have been painting playroom, nursery and bedroom murals, I have seen almost every design and variation. A thoughtfully designed mural transforms a plain wall into a world of imagination. Murals can be tailored to a specific theme, style, and colour palette, complementing existing decor and creating a cohesive and visually connected space.
A nursery mural for a newborn is a common request, and designs are typically painted in soft colours and include:
If the sex of the baby is known, this can influence the colour palette; equally, the design can be neutral, appealing to both boys and girls.
A playroom mural should spark imagination, promote creativity, and foster fun. The design can be loud and bold or subtle and supportive, following a specific theme or character. Think of a dinosaur parade, a fairy-tale castle, or a rocket launching into the stars – playroom murals set the stage to make every playtime an epic adventure and learning experience.
Ideas for your playroom mural include:
From creating a soothing atmosphere for bedtime stories or making a calm and welcoming space for students to learn and grow. Nature-inspired designs or peaceful scenes can turn stressful areas into calm environments, helping to reduce anxiety and promote focus. A custom bedroom mural is your chance to add personality and style to any bedroom. Bedroom Mural designs may include:
Capturing a child’s interests or personality in a bedroom or playroom mural is a great way to personalise their space. Anything goes, and the sky is the limit.

Parents have a great deal of fun working with me to create the mural design. Typically, we start with a broader idea and identify the feeling the mural should transmit to the children. Often, the feeling is a mixture of relaxation and playfulness.
If you have some ideas for your mural, I will work with you to develop them and provide additional ideas. I will give you as much support as you need and offer a design sketch for your feedback and approval before the project commences.
This is a team project, and I am here to guide and support you throughout the process.
All our internal murals come with a ten-year guarantee (subject to terms), our paints are eco-friendly and waterproof by default. If you anticipate having to wash down a mural regularly, consider protecting it with an additional layer of varnish as an optional extra for your project.
